ONE

panke.gallery’s participation in the Project Space Festival Berlin 2019 „When the Hunger starts“:
ONE is a new work by Union situated at the intersection of art, role-play, and experience design. (location to be announced)

16 June 2019 from 17:30  – 21:30

About the event

ONE is a new work by Union situated at the intersection of art, role-play, and experience design. Participants will be guided by a series of performative algorithms, the results of which form an intersubjective entity where both data and self is decentralized and anonymized. Recent Union experiences involved participants creating a psychophysical network of shared language, thought, and movement via specially calibrated 2 hour workshops. Set in a deserted outdoor space in central Berlin, ONE builds on these past designs to integrate the surrounding non-human influence of rubble, trash, sun, air, insects, plants, and the nearby Spree.

Artists

Initiated in the winter of 2018, UNION is an emergent, decentralised network that has delivered artist residencies, larps, exhibitions, workshops and educational projects with The Athens School of Fine Art (GR), PLX in Malmö (SE), Knudepunkt (DK), and Rollespilsfabrikken (DK). UNION has further upcoming projects in Berlin, Dublin, Malmö, Copenhagen and Minsk planned for 2019. For Panke.gallery and Project Space Festival, UNION members Eilis McDonald, Nina Runa Essendrop and Mark Durkan will present ONE.

Eilis McDonald explores numinosity and the aesthetics of chance using depreciated html code, discarded objects, borrowed images, leftover paint, and intangible transmissions. She has exhibited internationally at galleries and spaces such as IMMA - Irish Museum of Modern Art, TBG+S, Dublin, Stroom Den Haag, The Hague, Dublin Castle, and 319 Scholes, New York. Nina Runa Essendrop is a Danish artist and larp designer with a masters degree in Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies. She has a strong focus on movement, sensory experiences and the meaning of physical action. Nina is an active player in the Nordic Larp community. She has designed and run workshops, larps, performances and interactive theatre pieces at amongst others, Transmediale 2016 (Berlin, Germany), Momentum: The 8th Nordic Biennial of Contemporary Art (Moss, Norway), Athens Biennale 2018 (Athens, Greece), The Flea Theatre (New York, US), Dome of Visions (Arhus, Denmark) and Ormston House (Limerick, Ireland). Mark Durkan is an artist with a mobile practice that traverses Europe. Durkan's current work explores the experiential potential of co-created fictional realities. Engaging with the architectural presence of a space and the people that embody it, he transposes identity with alibi to explore a joint idiom of value and threat. Mark Durkan has led projects and exhibited extensively, including in Project Arts Centre, Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin Castle and the City Gallery Hugh Lane in Dublin, ZhdK in Zurich, Zair Azgur Museum in Minsk, The Museum of Moving Image in New York, Via Farini in Milan, 3331 Arts Chiyoda in Tokyo and German Chancellery in Berlin.
